Eco friendly tourism in Hamilton

Best Western Hygate Motor Lodge & Conference Centre was the first Motel in Hamilton to be awarded a Qualmark Enviro-Silver certification in recognition of our commitment to the environment and sustainable tourism.

ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT

Our company depends on a high quality natural environment for the success of our operation. We recognise that our daily activities could potentially have an effect on the environment and have adopted the following policies and procedures to manage our activities. We shall maintain a high level of environmental integrity at all times and minimise or avoid any adverse impacts on our environment.

We have implimented a 90% chemical free cleaning system by changing to Enjo cleaning fibres, this has also given a 50% reduction in water usage for cleaning. Test results have shown that cleaning with Enjo products is on average are 6 times better than cleaning with conventional methods.

Throughout our complex we have extensive use of Energy Saver Bulbs. All external lights are fitted with Energy Saver Bulbs as are the majority of the internal lights. It is our policy to replace bulbs with Energy Saver Bulbs wherever possible. We make every effort to reduce the amount of refuse that goes into landfills by implementing a re-use & recycling policy. We endeavour to recycle all our Plastic, Glass, Paper, Cardboard, and Aluminium & Steel Cans.

Over the past 12 months we have reduced the amount of solid waste being sent to landfill by over 50% it is our aim to further reduce this in the coming months.

We use a unique 'green' range of in-room guest amenities, made with an organic-based additive, which are fully biodegradable.
